Man Escapes From Home Seconds Before Violent Flood Engulfs It

This is the dramatic moment a man escapes from his home just seconds before it is engulfed by a violent flood.

The incident took place in the city of Anapolis in the Brazilian state of Goias.

Security camera footage shows how the man, identified as 37-year-old sales rep Romulo do Carmo, potters around on the property’s covered porch during heavy rain as he talks on his mobile phone.

At one point, he can be seen glancing towards the house before he runs down the stairs, onto the grass and out of shot just seconds before a deluge of murky water bursts through the property and rapidly fills up the garden.

No one was injured in the incident, according to the news portal G1

Carmo reported that work being carried out on a neighbouring lot caused water to accumulate against the wall that backs onto his house.

He said: “I saw through a crack in the gate that the water was rising very quickly. At the time, I called the person responsible for the works, but there wasn’t time to do much. I ran and I told my wife to close the door.”

Carmo said the deluge completely wrecked his home, ruining furniture and causing him losses of BRL 80,000 (GBP 10,700).

He added: “Everything was destroyed. But thank God me, my wife and the four dogs are fine. Now it’s time to work to buy everything again.”
