A Russian man has decided to sell his beloved towel of eight years – which he named Evgheny Polotentsev – because the close ‘friends’ have been drifting apart lately and he can no longer offer the towel “the life he deserves”.

According to local media, 18-year-old Spartak F. from the western Russian capital Moscow has decided to sell his towel-pal on social media for 50,000 RUB (610 GBP).

Spartak said that his towel is a friend named Evgheny Polotentsev and that it is seeking a new owner.

Explaining his decision, Spartak said: “If I sold a normal towel, the price would certainly be different, but I am not trying to make money here.

“We have been through so much together in our lives, he (the towel) has been with me for a very long time, but at the moment I can’t give Evgheny the life he deserves.”

According to Spartak, the pair has been together for eight years, but some cracks have recently appeared in their relationship and he believes the towel wants out.

He said: “He has been living with me for too long now. We go to the same places and there are fewer events I can take him to lately.”

He also admitted: “My other friends don’t quite understand my relationship with him.”

According to Douglas Adams’ comedy classic ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’, “a towel is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.”
