This is the horrific moment a 37-year-old man accidentally reverses over his one-year-old niece as she hides behind the back of his car and he fails to spot her.

The little girl. named as Elif T., was killed in the tragic accident which was caught on CCTV cameras in the city of Bursa in north-western Turkey’s Marmara Region.

The footage shows Elif toddle towards the back of the car as her uncle, named only as Mehmet T., prepares to reverse away from his home.

Sadly he does not see her and reverses straight over the child, dragging her for a few metres before her body emerges from under his wheels.

Mehmet T. jumps out of his car when he realises what has happened but turns away in shock when he sees the lifeless body of his niece.

He called the emergency services while a woman is seen in the video running towards Elif and picking her up in her arms.

Paramedics quickly arrived on the scene but they determined Elif had already died and took her body to the Bursa Forensic Medicine Institute for an autopsy.

Elif’s family are said to be devastated by her death while Mehmet T. was left sitting by his car crying, according to local media.

He was later arrested by local police for questioning about the death of his niece. The investigation into the incident, in the Yildirim district of Bursa, is ongoing.
