This is the moment filling station workers run for their lives as an out-of-control van overturns and smashes into a fuel pump at high speed.

The incident was caught on CCTV cameras at the filling station in Turkey’s biggest city of Istanbul.

The footage shows attendants waiting by the pumps, having just served a customer, who is driving off when the white van swerves into a roadside sign and a barrier wall at the front of the garage.

The vehicle overturns and slides across the forecourt. smashing into a fuel pump which is knocked back by the impact, as the attendants flee in panic.

The white car which had just been refuelled is seen driving away in the nick of time to avoid being hit.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident which happened in the Basaksehir district on the European side of the city.

Meanwhile the video of the spectacular accident is proving popular on social media where most viewers criticised the van driver whose name has not been released.

Netizen ‘Xxx300’ commented: “Douchebag! God knows what he was doing, maybe he was playing on his phone.”

‘Il’ warned: “People, you should slow down and drive more carefully”, while ‘Yusuf’ added: “May we be protected from unpredictable accidents.”
