An amazed punter won USD 1 million on a scratchcard just three months after scooping a prize worth nearly USD 200,000.
Lucky Cedric Bass – from Kannapolis, in the US state of North Carolina, USA – told how he bought the winning ticket after filling up his car with petrol.
He explained: “I got gas and the ticket from across the street.”
To his astonishment, as he scratched off the panels he realised he had won the million-dollar jackpot.
His win came after he had already raked in a USD 182,073 (GBP 146,000) win in January.
Newsflash obtained a statement from the North Carolina Lottery on 17th April, saying: “Cedric Bass of Kannapolis beat the odds for the second time in three months to win a USD 1 million scratch-off prize.
“After a trip to the grocery store Thursday, he decided to make one more stop.”
The statement went on: “The USD 10 [GBP 8] VIP Platinum ticket Bass picked up from Willow Oaks BP on George W. Liles Parkway in Concord turned out to be a USD 1 million winner.
“Luck has been on Bass’ side before.”
“Bass matched all five white balls in the 6th January drawing and won USD 182,073 after splitting the jackpot with another winner.
“When Bass arrived at lottery headquarters Friday to claim his USD 1 million win, he had a decision to make.
“He could choose to receive his prize as an annuity of USD 50,000 [GBP 40,000] over 20 years or a lump sum of USD 600,000 [GBP 481,000].
“He chose the lump-sum amount of USD 600,000 and, after required state and federal tax withholdings, took home USD 427,503 [GBP 343,000].”
