This is the moment an elderly woman has a lucky escape when a car careers onto the pavement and brushes past her, knocking her to the ground.

The incident was filmed in the city of Kaluga in the south-western Russian region of Kaluga Oblast, and the footage has been widely viewed on social media.

In the video, a line of vehicles is seen queuing in the middle of the road to turn left as an elderly woman wearing a hat stands waits to cross the street on the pavement.

An estate car pulls out in front of an oncoming vehicle and hits its side, sending it careering onto the pavement.

The out-of-control driver crashes into a pedestrian sign before knocking the elderly woman over.

Luckily, the car only appears to brush the woman and she is seen getting to her feet and shaking the debris out of her hair.

According to local media, the unnamed woman only suffered light bruising although there was no information regarding the drivers involved.

It is currently unclear whether the local authorities are investigating the accident.
