This lucky five-year-old boy cheated death after climbing onto a washing machine and then falling from the balcony of his family’s 12th-floor flat.
The youngster, named only as K by doctors, escaped with his life after his fall was cushioned by the bush before he dropped onto soft soil instead of nearby concrete.
K was rushed to hospital with multiple life-threatening injuries following the terrifying incident in Ho Chi Minh City in south-eastern Vietnam.
And – against all odds – doctors say he is now out of danger after treatment in the intensive care unit of the city’s Children’s Hospital.
K’s mother said she had left the youngster playing with his toys while she got on with her housework.
While she was distracted, he managed to climb onto a washing machine kept on the balcony and then toppled over the edge.
Residents rushed to the scene after hearing the boy hit the ground after an estimated 36 metre (120 ft) fall.
K was still conscious when he arrived at the Ho Chi Minh City Children’s Hospital just ten minutes away from his home.
He had broken his neck, right arm and both legs, and was also suffering from internal bleeding and damage to his liver and lungs.
But doctors said he was lucky to have survived such a fall with his life and with no damage to his brain.
K is still being treated at the hospital but is awake and has been taken off the ventilator which was helping him to breathe. He is expected to make a full recovery.
