This is the moment a helpless scooter rider is dragged along the ground for over 30 feet by lorry after the turning Heavy Goods Vehicle knocks him over.

The heart-stopping accident happened in the city of Zhangjiagang in China’s eastern Jiangsu Province, with the lorry turning off a main road onto a side street.

In the video, the scooter rider Mr Lu ends up in lorry owner Mr Zhang’s blind spot, with the latter failing to notice the smaller vehicle as he makes a right turn.

Mr Lu is immediately knocked off his vehicle, but Mr Zhang does not realise and continues to drive for over 30 feet while pushing both man and scooter along the ground ahead of his tractor.

The scooter rider, who was at the mercy of the lorry driver, escapes unharmed and manages to stand up after Mr Zhang finally stops.

Officer Zhang Zhengnan said: “The scooter was luckily not pinned underneath his vehicle while being pushed, so he didn’t come to any serious harm and only sustained some superficial injuries.”

Lorry driver Mr Zhang will be held fully liable for the accident, the authorities said.

He is also expected to pay for Mr Lu’s damaged scooter.
