A British paragliding enthusiast called Melissa has had her Instagram page bombarded with thousands of comments from Malaysian students after a question about a paraglider called Melissa appeared on their English exam paper.
According to local media, Malaysian high school students had a question about a character named Melissa who went paragliding on their English exam known locally as the SPM exam.
But afterwards they somehow found a social media page belonging to an artist based in London whose Instagram page has several paragliding snaps and took the opportunity to practice their English and to try to get to know the real English woman.
Twitter user ‘Istgfu’ explained: “In the SPM English paper just now, there was a question with a character named Melissa who went paragliding. Then people found an actual Melissa who went paragliding and they flooded her Instagram account with comments.”
One of her photos, that was uploaded in July, suddenly received over 6,000 comments, mostly from Malaysian students.
Many of the comments were in Malay but many others used the opportunity to practice their English.
Instagram user ‘mohd.arif89’ wrote: “Well, I don’t expect this could be real and yeah, your story was totally amazing Melissa. Why am saying like this? Because you’re in our Malaysian high school final examination English paper commonly known as SPM in Malaysia 🙂 I shall want to say be careful for next paragliding flight. OK? Lots of love from Malaysia huhu wish me luck on my English paper this year!! Have a nice flight and sorry for my broken English 🙁 (sic)”
And ‘fhmiafhm’ wrote: “Nice to meet you Melissa, i once read story about your paragliding, but in SPM examination paper 🙂 🙂 🙂 (sic)”
And ‘fatienchan’ wrote that they thought the story was made up and was delighted to find that they were wrong, saying: ” . . . you actually made my day more beautiful after I finishing answering SPM (sic).”
