This is the moment a happy little boy blows out the candles on his cake on his second birthday shortly before he fell into a septic tank and died.

Volkan Sahin, 2, who lives in the district of Mut in the south-eastern Turkish province of Mersin, did not return home after going outside to play in front of his house.

When his family could not find him, and seeing that the septic tank in front of their house was left open for work by the municipality, father Hamza Sahin and mother Atiye Sahin immediately informed the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Directorate (MESKI) teams.

MESKI teams who came to the scene and started a search inside the septic tank then found Volkan’s dead body.

The local media reported that Volkan, the youngest of three children of the Sahin family, celebrated his 2nd birthday on 8th May.

In the video, it is seen that Volkan, who seems to be very happy, blows the candles while his family sings the birthday song.

The dead body of Hamza was sent to Mersin Forensic Medicine Institute for autopsy. An investigation has been launched into the incident.

It is not known whether there is the municipality’s negligence or whether a legal sanction will be imposed on this issue.

A statement has not yet been made from the municipality on the tragic death.
