LIGHTNING STRIKE: Inside Of Pickup Truck Melted After Being Zapped During Storm

This remarkable footage shows how the inside of a pickup truck was left completely melted after it was struck by lightning.

Incredibly, the driver was unscathed in the incident, which took place on the BR-020 highway between Posse and Simolandia, Brazil, on 20th January.

The vehicle’s interior is believed to have melted after the lightning strike caused a short circuit.

Mechanic Josimar, who was called to the scene, told local media: “It is a rare case, but all cars that have an external antenna are at risk.

“The lightning hit the antenna and passed into the car’s electrical system, creating a short circuit, setting it on fire and melting the panel.”

Josimar said on social media that the fire that melted the pickup truck’s interior started in the fuse box.

The clip shows how the electrical discharge was so strong that it even cracked the windscreen on the Ford Ranger vehicle.

The driver – named as Umberto Denardin – was able to get out of the pickup truck immediately and suffered no injuries.

Josimar explained: “He thought fast and quickly got out of the car, closing the doors so the fire couldn’t spread.”

He said on social media that the fire stopped after oxygen inside the closed vehicle – which is now damaged beyond repair – ran out.

However, meteorological expert Andre Amorim gave a slightly different explanation, telling local media: “The lightning hit the car and not the radio antenna, because lightning has a winding trajectory, it passes through the car and dissipates on the ground, but, when passing through the car, it can indeed damage electronic parts.”
