Lawyer Who Ran Over Teenage Girl On Zebra Crossing Blames Her For Accident

A teenage girl on a zebra crossing was sent flying after she was hit by a lawyer’s car who then claimed she had been listening to her headphones and that she was to blame.

The incident was filmed on Presidente Juan Domingo Peron Avenue in the city of San Miguel in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires on 2nd July with the footage being shared on social media the following week.

Abril Salina, 17, who does not appear to be holding a mobile phone or listening to music and checks carefully before stepping onto the crossing was hit shortly after leaving her home to take a bus to the Juana Manso high school where she was in her final year.

She had only gone a few metres from her home when she was hit by a Renault Kwid and died hours later in the hospital.

The owner of the Renault Kwid, identified as lawyer Sergio Diaz, was arrested that day.

He stopped to assist the injured teenager, claiming that he “did not see her” as she walked along the zebra crossing, and alleged that she had not been paying attention.

The victim’s aunt Valeria told local reporters: “The man said my niece crossed the road incorrectly and that she was wearing headphones with her mobile phone.

“He claims that he did not see her crossing, but it is strange that he remembers she was wearing headphones and her phone was intact in her backpack. If she was carrying it in her hand, it would have been broken by the impact.”

The victim’s family has appealed for witnesses to come forwards to help the investigation while also calling on the local authorities to deliver justice for the dead teen.
