Cops are desperately hunting a man seen with a missing three-year-old boy who wandered off after his parents dozed off at a train station.

The couple decided to rest at the MGR Chennai Central railway station before starting work.

But after they fell asleep, their young son wandered off, and shocking CCTV footage shows that a man picked the child up and was filmed walking off with him.

Indian police say they have organised a special task force and released the footage in order to try to identify the man.

The footage shows the young boy in a red shirt walking through the crowded station and later leaving in the arms of a man who is the kidnapper in a blue T-shirt with dark-coloured pants.

He was earlier filmed following the little boy, apparently to check that he was alone, before picking him up. Other footage shows little boy apparently sleeping in the man’s arms.

The last video released by cops shows the abductor going to the Park station where he used the city’s metro to escape with the child on his shoulder.

Police said the missing boy was identified only by his first name Somnat, the son of Ram Singh and Neelavathi Celliwada from Nabarangpur district of Odisha.

A railway police spokesman added: “The couple worked as daily wagers and rested at the station before starting work the next day. It was around 2.30 AM when Neelavathi raised the alarm after realising that her son was gone.”
