This is the moment a hawk eats its pigeon prey on a balcony in front of a young boy who filmed it.

The video was recorded by a young boy in the Kocasinan district of Kayseri province of Turkey and posted online by his dad Emre Ayan.

In the clip, a pied goshawk (Accipiter albogularis) be seen on a windowsill tearing its prey, reportedly a pigeon, apart with its beak.

The young boy, who has not been named and whose age was not given, can be heard speaking as the hawk takes bites out of the pigeon.

Dad Ayan, reportedly a lawyer, later revealed that his son had called him to tell him the hawk had landed on the windowsill and he told the boy to record what he said, likening the youngster to a National Geographic reporter.

The proud dad wrote: “My son called me on the phone and told me a bird had landed on the balcony. I said to him ‘alright son’. Then he called me again and said to me ‘dad, the bird is eating a bird’ then I told him to record a video and to send it to me. This is the footage. National Geographic Kayseri.” 

Local media report large numbers of birds of prey have started coming to cities in the area and hunting pigeons since they have difficulties finding food in the wild.
