This is the moment a doctor fighting coronavirus shows the levels of protection health professionals need to adopt when treating COVID-19 patients.

The video was shared by Maulen Zhumadillaev, a doctor from an infectious diseases hospital in the city of Aktau in south-western Kazakhstan, to show some of the long-winded process medical professionals go through every day to protect themselves from the virus.

In the video, Zhumadillaev can be seen putting on a protective suit over his gown before grabbing a face mask and securing it to his face with tape.

He then puts on one pair of latex gloves, tucks his thumbs through special slits in the suit before placing on another pair of gloves.

The doctor finishes his preparation with a pair of plastic boots, protective goggles and a visor.

He said that all of the items of the protective outfit apart from the helmet and the boots are disposable and the whole process takes around five to seven minutes to complete.

The doctor said all staff working with COVID-19 patients have to go through the same protective measures and are constantly isolated from the outside world.

He said: “They are isolated, they work days and nights and do not see their families for a long time.”

According to the latest figures from the Johns Hopkins University, there have been 1,091 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kazakhstan, with 14 deaths.
