Indian Uber Driver’s DIY Paddle Shifter Revolutionises Gear Changes

In a remarkable act of innovation, an Uber driver from India has designed a custom paddle shifter to alleviate shoulder pain during gear changes.

X user Parth Parmar discovered this inventive solution made by a driver named Durai during a ride from Marathahalli to HSR Layout in Bangalore, the capital and largest city of the southern Indian state of Karnataka.

Durai’s homemade paddle shifter, created for GBP 85 (USD 108), serves as a practical remedy for personal discomfort.

Parmar expressed optimism, saying: “This could be huge. Wish he gets the right support and guidance to make it big. No dearth of talent in India.”

Parmar explained: “He turned the stick behind the steering into a paddle shifter, connected with a chip which activates the relays that drive the motor assembly to shift the gear.”

Highlighting Durai’s proficiency in four languages, Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, and Kannada, Parmar underscored the driver’s versatility.

Durai’s inventive solution swiftly caught the online community’s attention, earning praise for his resourceful approach.

The post gained a lot of attention as users lauded the Uber driver’s innovative creation.

A user expressed admiration, stating, “Hats off to him for both talent and his effort to speak in Hindi!”

Comparing the design to a Nano, another user added, “If he can patent it, count me as a customer. The fuel mileage is comparable to a standard, superior to AMT, and more affordable than any automatic.”
