This is the moment a motorist loses control on an icy road and careers directly into a 14-year-old boy on the pavement.
The incident was filmed by a CCTV camera in the gold-mining town of Aldan in the north-eastern Russian Republic of Sakha while the victim was walking to a corner shop with his pal late at night.
In the video, the victim’s friend is seen walking ahead of him on the pavement as a car appears on the icy road.
Apparently unable to turn at the T-junction, the car skids on the ice and continues straight ahead before mounting the pavement.
The car seems to crush the boy against a building wall as snow and ice flies in the air.
According to local media, the teenager died on the spot while the unnamed 49-year-old Toyota driver succumbed to his injuries in an ambulance on the way to the hospital.
The local authorities are investigating the accident while reminding residents that under-18s should not be walking on the street on their own at night.
Netizen ‘Goga Ivanov’ said: “Going to a corner shop late at night at 14 years of age. I mean, it is not the best scenario, to begin with.”
Another online commentator wrote: “It does not matter how it all happened, it is a shame that both of them lost their lives.”
The town of Aldan was founded in 1923 after gold deposits were discovered in the area. During World War II, an airfield was built there for the Alaska-Siberian (ALSIB) air route to send American Lend-Lease aircraft to the Eastern Front.
