Iceland Wind Blows Away Bouncy Castle With 108 Kids On It Leaving 1 In Intensive Care

A strong gust has blown away a bouncy castle with 108 children playing on it in Iceland, resulting in seven needing hospital treatment including one minor in intensive care.

The inflatable castle called ‘The Monster’ was recently transported from the Perlan – Wonders of Iceland landmark in Oskjuhlio to the northern Icelandic town of Akureyri on 2nd July.

A football tournament was taking place in the town with over 3,000 participants and parents in attendance, mostly for boys aged 11 or 12.

According to the local police, 108 children were on the bouncy castle when a strong gust swept it away and seven youngsters needed hospital attention.

Six children only suffered minor injuries in the incident, however one minor is reportedly in intensive care.

After the incident took place, people reacted quickly and a first aid station was opened to treat the injured, including Red Cross members providing trauma care.

Akureyri mayor Asthildur Sturludottir said the weather was milder than the day before when a weather warning was issued for northern Iceland.

With temperatures reaching 14 degrees Celsius and maximum wind speeds of 9 metres per second (32 kph), the accident surprised many and an investigation is underway to determine what happened.
