A 15-year-old girl has been arrested for stabbing a teen dancer to death during a victory parade by a high-school basketball team.
Victim Kayla Breonna Green, 16, died when she was stabbed twice by the suspect at the event in Mount Vernon, Westchester County, New York state, USA, at around 3.55pm on Friday, 8th April.
Westchester County District Attorney Mimi Rocah said on Saturday that the suspect also slashed a 15-year-old, who is recovering in hospital.
The attacker – unnamed by officials – reportedly struck during a march to celebrate the success of the high-school basketball squad.
The suspect – said to have a history of bullying the victim – was filmed swinging a knife among a group of brawling girls near the end of the parade, according to local media.
The victim was reportedly stabbed in the back and side.
The city authorities confirmed two teenage girls were stabbed in the incident, adding that the 16-year-old victim was “gravely injured” and eventually died at Jacobi Medical Center.
Green’s mother posted a photo of her daughter fighting for her life in hospital with the message: “I am not strong please pray for me while I try to pray for myself at this point I feel like I want to die and bury with my child, she was only 16 and they took my baby away from me I want to die right now.
“I don’t even know how to say RIP to my daughter this feels so unreal.”
Mayor Shawyn Patterson Howard said: “I am devastated and completely outraged.”
The investigation continues.
