This is the moment a teenage driver reportedly falls asleep at the wheel of his his Volkswagen Polo after a hard day at work and smashes into a tree head on before the car flips over.

The incident took place on Wyszynski Street in the town of Lukow in the eastern Polish region of Lublin Voivodeship and was filmed by a nearby CCTV camera.

According to reports, the 18-year-old driver of the red Volkswagen Polo fell asleep behind the wheel after a tough day at work.

Local police confirmed that the young motorist careered off the road and hit a tree situated on the pavement.

After the accident, the teenager managed to crawl out of the overturned vehicle and call for help.

The 18-year-old told officers that he was coming back from work and started to feel tired while driving.

He was taken to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.

Meanwhile, the local police released the CCTV footage as warning to other road users that it is not difficult to cause a tragedy on the road.

In the black and white clip, the VW Polo is seen coming off the road and hitting the tree head-on.

The vehicle then flips onto its roof in the middle of the road and the young driver crawls out moments after.

Police appealed to drivers to exercise caution and common sense, especially when feeling drowsy on the road.
