Investigators highlighted Reddy as a suspect and he was arrested. The police have now reportedly told local media that the 28-year-old has confessed to sexually assaulting and murdering both girls.

The authorities said Reddy also confessed to having abducted, raped and murdered an 11-year-old girl from the village of Maisireddypalli who went missing as she visited her aunt in Hajipur in 2015.

Local media report Reddy, who is a lift mechanic, would offer the girls lifts home in his car before killing them.

Officials said Reddy had smothered the 14-year-old victim before pushing her into the well, sexually assaulting her when she was unconscious and then killing her.

A police statement also claimed the suspect had been involved in sexually assaulting and murdering an “unknown female lady” along with three co-workers in a rented home in Kurnool in the state of Andhra Pradesh in 2016.

The statement claimed the four men had dumped the woman’s body in a water tank before vacating the house. It is unclear if the other suspects have been arrested.

Investigators are working to discover the remains of the 11-year-old victim and have said they will try to have the death penalty handed to the suspect at trial.

Local media report villagers had burnt Reddy0s house down in anger after his arrest.

The investigation is ongoing.
