This is the moment a police officer grabs a woman holding an 8-inch blade to her throat on a bridge as she threatens to jump into the river below after she caught her husband with another woman.

The unnamed spouse from Hangzhou’s Yuhang District in East China’s Zhejiang Province is said to have been delivering a packed meal to her husband’s office during a rainstorm when she spotted him on the street.

According to the woman, her husband was holding an umbrella for a female colleague, and they pair were “fraternising”.

She suspected him of cheating but did not confront him; instead, she went home, grabbed the 8-inch paring knife and threatened to harm self.

Local residents called the police when they spotted the woman standing on a bridge with the blade pointed at her chest and neck.

Officers said neighbours who recognised the woman later brought her young son to the scene, but the tactic backfired, causing the woman to become even more emotional.

Footage shows the woman holding the blade to her throat and repeatedly trying to climb over the bridge balustrade in order to jump into the water below.

Officer Zhang and a partner slowly circle behind the woman as another policeman tries to dissuade her.

Sufficiently distracted, the woman does not notice as Zhang and his partner, Song Hongwei, dash up from behind and restrain her.

As the video ends, the officers grab hold of the woman’s knife hand, preventing her from harming herself.

The authorities said she was taken to hospital and met there by her husband.

The husband claimed he and his wife had a very good relationship, and that they hardly ever argued.

However, he admitted his spouse was relatively “strict” and does not allow other women to be near him.

Referring to his holding an umbrella for his colleague, the husband said his spouse was “imagining things”.

The wife has since been discharged from hospital.
