This is the moment a cruel United Nations worker rains down punches and kicks on a tiny white dog inside a lift.

The video was filmed in the city of Pasto in the southern Colombian department of Narino and shared on Twitter by the animal rights organisation ‘Plataforma Alto’ where it has been seen 61,000 times.

In the footage, a man in a blue coat, identified as Spanish national Juan Vasquez, is seen kicking and hitting a small white dog.

The United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia has since released a statement saying that the man in the video is employed by the organisation and they are investigating the claims of animal abuse.

The organisation has asked the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia to take action against the employee.

Spokeswoman Natalia Parra told local media: “Maybe the UN cannot get involved in the case, but they can take other measures. Sometimes it is not just about penal justice, but also social action when somebody commits this kind of offence.”

Pasto councillor Fidel Dario Martinez called the incident “outrageous” on social media and announced that he will report the alleged case of animal abuse.

In Colombia, such cases are reportedly punishable with a fine and possibly prison time.

The probe continues.
