The monument is reportedly made of gypsum and was taken down in the Crimean Peninsula back in 2014.

Potential buyers can view the sales item in the town of Nelidovo in the western Russian region of Tver Oblast.

Local resident Anna Petrova said she recognised the statue from her old school. She contacted the head who told her it disappeared from the hall about 20 years ago and was never seen again.

Lenin buff Nikolay Teplykh said: “The statue was never sold to the school it was in and it should not be sold now as it’s an item with high national value.”

The 22nd April marked the 150th anniversary of Lenin’s birth in 1870.

Under Lenin’s administration, Russia and then the wider Soviet Union became a one-party communist state governed by the Russian Communist Party.
