Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde has said Chilean superstar Arturo Vidal “had a good match and will be with us when we come back from the holidays” amid transfer rumours to Serie A.

The comments from Spanish manager Valverde, 55, came during a post-match press conference after Barcelona’s 4-1 victory over Alaves where he spoke about midfielder Vidal, 32, amid transfer rumours to Inter Milan.

When speaking about Vidal’s role at the club, Valverde said: “Arturo can be at the front, in the back, left, right… It is hard to place him sometimes.

“But in the interior, as Leo goes back often, we need our second line of attack to move forward and he moves forward. It is very good for us to strike from the back.”

Valverde went on to talk about the Chilean international’s performance during Saturday’s match, where Vidal was a starter, saying: “I value his input positively, like (Carles) Alena.

“They had a good match and will be with us when we come back from holidays. I am counting on them.”

Reported Tottenham Hotspur target Carles Alena, 21, is also linked with a move away from the Camp Nou.

Local media said Inter Milan are pushing for Vidal’s move to the club in this winter transfer window, however the clubs have yet to reach an agreement.

Barcelona’s victory over Alaves secures the top position in La Liga with two points over Real Madrid after their 0-0 draw to Athletic Bilbao.
