The shooter then opens fire, firing at least five shots at point-blank range at Santos before turning and sprinting away, according to local media.

Santos manages to turn and run away as the gunman gets back into the SUV, reportedly a Mercedes.

Local media report the victim was treated by paramedics at the scene but succumbed to his wounds.

Reports state Santos was homeless and residents knew him well from salvaging recyclable rubbish in the area. He is said to have lived on the streets with his wife, who has not been named.

The Civil Police have launched an investigation into the incident and no motive has yet been provided. No arrests have been reported.
