Antoine Griezmann’s father has admitted his son “has made mistakes” with his move to Barcelona but he says the striker will do his “talking on the pitch”.

Griezmann signed for Barcelona for 120 million EUR (107 million GBP) in a controversial transfer which Atletico Madrid claim had been agreed in March and should actually be worth 200 million EUR (179 million GBP).

Speaking to Barca Inside, Alain Griezmann was asked about how his son will be received by Atletico Madrid’s fans in the coming season, saying: “I’m not scared, because as Antoine says the talking is done on the pitch. He has made mistakes, he knows that, but everything will be decided on the turf.”

Speaking about his son’s televised decision last season to reject Barcelona and stay with Atletico, Alain said: “When he made his decision last year, I was 200-percent convinced that he would sign with Barcelona. But it was his decision, he is the professional.”

When asked what Barcelona means, Alain said: “It’s the collective, the football, it’s Messi, the best player in the world, who thinks about others, gives assists and lets his teammates take penalties. It’s beautiful to watch.”

The World Cup winner’s father said Barcelona were “the best of the best” and claimed he had been a fan of the club “since the years of Cruyff, Stoitchkov, and all the great players who have passed through the club”.
