A 17-year-old girl has been killed by her machete-wielding 50-year-old lover inside a police station where she was asking for help.

Leidy Bacallao Carralero was murdered in the Camalote police station, in the municipality of Nuevitas, in Camaguey province, in Cuba, on the night of Friday, 3rd February, shortly after midnight.

Her lover Elesvan Hidalgo, 50, has been arrested for her murder.

Leidy had sought refuge in the police station after Hidalgo began harassing her in the street, according to local media.

He followed her into the building and allegedly attacked her with the machete before cops could help, killing her in the process.

Hidalgo reportedly already has drug charges and charges pertaining to the mistreatment of women pending against him and has previously served time in prison.

The Ministry of the Interior in Cuba (MININT) said in a statement: “In the early morning of 4th February, 2023, an unfortunate event was recorded in the community of Camalote, in the municipality of Nuevitas in Camaguey.

“In that town, a 50-year-old individual with poor social behaviour and multiple criminal records killed his 17-year-old ex-partner, who was seeking shelter in the substation of the National Revolutionary Police.

“As a result of the response of the forces of internal order, the author of the event was injured in the lumbar region. Forces of the Criminal Investigation system of the province continue the investigation for its total clarification.”

The horrific murder has reportedly shocked Cuba.
