A 15-year-old girl has accidentally killed herself at her grandparents’ house while making a TikTok video with a loaded machine gun she happened across.

The Uzi submachine gun reportedly went off when she dropped it, fatally injuring the teen girl.

The incident took place in the community of Ruiz Cortines 3 in the Mexican state of Sinaloa while the victim was visiting her grandparents’ house.

The victim, named as Jazmin N., grew bored at her grandparents’ house and rummaged through their belongings, eventually coming across the firearm.

She was filming a video to attract ‘likes’ and followers on her TikTok page when the accident took place.

She reportedly did not know that the submachine gun was loaded and was showing it off to her followers when the weapon fell to the floor and went off.

State attorney general Sara Bruna Quinonez said the teenager was holding a 9mm-caliber Uzi submachine she found in the house when she dropped it, accidentally triggering the weapon.

Quinonez said: “The girl was filming a TikTok video when she had the weapon. It has been confirmed that it was an accidental death. The 15-year-old girl was very unfortunate.”

According to the news site Excelsior, the weapon belonged to the girl’s father and was the same as those used in the Mexican Armed Forces.

The authorities are investigating why such a weapon was kept at the victim’s grandparents’ house and why it was apparently loaded.

The public prosecutor’s office said in a statement: “It is said that the weapon belonged to the father, this is still being verified. When a weapon of this type is found in a house with children, of course the responsibility of who kept it at the property will also be determined.”
