A 14-year-old girl whose throat was cut so deeply she was nearly decapitated was also pregnant.
Her alleged killer, her boyfriend who did not like the way she dressed and did not agree with her ending the relationship, even sent footage of the murder to her family before turning himself in to the police.
The victim, Beatriz Ferreira Souza, was brutally murdered in the Colina Verde district of the municipality of Governador Jorge Teixeira in the Brazilian state of Rondonia at about 10pm on Sunday, 5th February.
Her 22-year-old boyfriend, named as Erik Moraes de Jesus, is the main suspect and he allegedly stabbed Beatriz to death and slit her throat so badly that she was nearly decapitated.
Her lifeless body was found in a rural area on the morning of Monday, 6th February, with the boyfriend later turning himself in to the police and reportedly confessing to murder.
Moraes de Jesus said that he allegedly killed her because she betrayed him. The police investigation has revealed that she had said that she wanted to break up with him.
Beatriz’s body was taken for autopsy and it has now emerged that she was pregnant at the time of her death.
The police have said that neither the victim nor the suspect knew that she was pregnant.
A spokesperson named as Caritiana Cuellar said: “We do not work with the line of investigation that this femicide was committed because she was pregnant or with the intention of hiding the pregnancy.
“From what was found out from the witnesses and also from the content of the victim’s and suspect’s cell phones, it is that both were unaware of this fact.”
But the authorities did say that the crime was premeditated, with the suspect inviting Beatriz over to his place for “a conversation as friends”.
Cuellar said: “He murdered her. Afterwards, he even recorded the act and forwarded videos of the dead teenager, almost decapitated, to some family members. When he was questioned by the investigator as to why he had recorded the dead girl, he said it was because he wanted the police to believe that he really was the perpetrator.”
The spokesperson also said that the suspect is “an extremely cold person” and showed no regret.
Moraes de Jesus has since been detained, with Cuellar saying: “It’s a brutal crime. A brutal femicide committed out of jealousy.
“He was jealous because of the clothes she was wearing, shorts, which in his opinion were too short. Because she went somewhere and didn’t tell him that she had gone and that led to a fight. She ended the relationship and he, dissatisfied, decided to kill her.”
The investigation is ongoing.
