This is the moment a garage worker is partially paralysed by a faulty car washer which electrocutes him for over 20 seconds before he manages to unplug the appliance and save himself.

The terrifying accident happened in Xixiangtang District in Nanning, capital of South China’s Guangxi region, where Mr Song, 23, works at an electric scooter garage.

He was cleaning a client’s electric scooter at the shop on Mutangli Road, and plugged in a pressure washing gun to clean out the dust.

CCTV footage dated 27th June shows Mr Song putting a suction hose into a bucket of water and then picking up the power washer with his left hand.

Just seconds later his entire body begins convulsing as the faulty device sends 220V of electricity coursing through his body, partially paralysing him.

The distressing video shows Mr Song’s body almost entirely rigid apart from his right arm, and he has the presence of mind to throw himself to the ground when he is unable to prise his fingers off the pressure washing gun using his free hand.

Despite being continuously shocked for more than 20 seconds, Mr Song is able to save himself by unplugging the power washer, escaping the ordeal with minor injuries.

He said: “As soon as I put the hose in the bucket and bent over to pick up the washing gun, my entire body went stiff.

“I could feel the electricity running throughout my whole body, and I just kept jolting.

“I couldn’t move my left arm. I tried pulling open my fingers, but they wouldn’t budge.

“I threw myself down and reached for the plug in order to turn the switch off. I tried a few times but it didn’t work.

“I called out for help and in the end just pulled the plug out myself.”

Mr Song, who now has electrocution scars on his back and hand, said his colleagues were upstairs and did not hear him.

A trip to a local hospital confirmed that he had suffered no serious injuries.

Reports said Mr Song was in touch with the power washing gun supplier and has been compensated for the injury as well as the days he will have to miss from work.

The supplier is said to be investigating the cause of the accident.
