This footballer is in hospital after he reportedly crashed his car into a man changing a tyre on the side of the road – killing him.

Local media report 28-year-old Argentine footballer Esteban Ciaccheri was driving his Citroen C3 down the Pan-American Highway in the city of Moron in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires in the fast lane when the incident occurred.

Reports state Ciaccheri suddenly “braked and his car moved out to the right” where 42-year-old Leonardo Omar Lombardo was changing a tyre on his Renault 9. Ciaccheri ran the man over.

Both men were taken to Hospital Juan C. Sanguinetti de Pilar where Lombardo died shortly after.

Ciaccheri, who recently signed with CD Moron from the Argentinian Primera B, is still in hospital under observation but reports state that he has not sustained any serious injuries.

A phot from the scene shows how Ciaccheri’s car was badly damaged in the incident.

Argentinian authorities say it will be treated as manslaughter and prosecutors are currently investigating the incident.

Ciaccheri is yet yo play a match Deportivo Moron since signing in June and he has previously had spells with Flandria, Rivadavia de Lincoln, Juventud Unida and Arsenal de Sarandi.

The investigation is ongoing.
