This is the moment more than 10 people jump into a river to rescue passengers inside an upside-down car before flipping the vehicle back onto its roof.

The saloon car carrying two adults and three young children careered off-road in the city of Guiyang, capital of Guizhou Province in south-western China on 27th July.

Video taken by a witness from the bridge above shows the crashed car’s chassis facing upwards after the entire vehicle had plunged into the river and then landed on its roof.

A number of adults can be seen surrounding the vehicle, attempting to open doors to save the victims inside as more jump into the water to join the rescue.

Two of the children are seen being carried to safety by rescuers, who hold them while swimming towards the riverbank.

However, the third child was reportedly trapped in the upside-down vehicle and could not be freed due to the back door failing to open.

In the video, the group of rescuers are then seen standing on one side of the car and flipping it over again, allowing the door to be opened and the child to be freed.

According to reports, the young victim was declared dead after having drowned inside the upturned vehicle.

A local official said the accident was caused by the “driver’s mistake”, without elaborating how the vehicle crashed into the river.

Authorities are investigating the case.
