Maradona And His Entourage Accused Of Human Trafficking By Woman Who Was 16 At The Time

A Cuban woman claims she was just 16 when Maradona and his entourage flew her to Argentina without her parent’s permission, controlled her every movement and even pressured her to get her breasts enlarged.

Mavys Alvarez Rego, 37, recounted the abuse she claims to have suffered at the hands of Diego Maradona and his entourage in an interview with America TeVe on 28th September.

Mavys, a Cuban national who now lives in Miami, told America TeVe how she met Maradona whilst he was undergoing treatment for his cocaine addiction in Cuba when she was just 16.

“I was just a girl. I was pure. He was a stranger, he was rich and he paid attention to me. I could not say no.”

She added: “It was a privilege to be his girlfriend”

She explained that in 2002, at which point she was just 17, Maradona had her flown out to Argentina without the permission of her parents.

Alvarez says that she arrived in Buenos Aires, Argentina and was essentially locked in her hotel room by Maradona’s entourage.

“I spent two and a half months there, they did not let me leave the hotel alone or the apartment where I was kept in the capital *Buenos Aires). There was always someone there to make sure I did not leave.”

She added: “The only two activities that they let me do was go shopping and visit the zoo,I was always accompanied by someone.”

Alvarez also claimed that she was pressured to undergo breast enlargement surgery without authorisation from her parents.

The interview led the Foundation for Peace and Climate Change in Argentina to present a legal case against the deceased football stars associates for human trafficking.

The complaint was filed with the Prosecutor’s Office for Trafficking and Exploitation of Persons (PROTEX) and Alvarez joined as a plaintiff. It is now in the hands of federal judge Julian Ercolini.

The court will investigate whether Maradona’s entourage engaged in human trafficking by transferring the young Cuban woman to Argentina without the consent of her parents.

Alvares also believes that the immigration officials who let her enter Argentina without her parents despite being a minor should face investigation.

According to Alvarez, there was some sort of collusion between Cuban and Argentina immigration officials that allowed her, a minor, to cross the border.

Gaston Marano, Mavys Alvarez’s lawyer, said: “There was collusion between the foreign and local immigration authorities.”

The investigation into the immigration officials and Maradona’s entourage is underway according to RPP Noticias.
