This is the horrifying moment a woman discovers her pressure cooker has exploded with such force the lid was embedded in the kitchen ceiling.

The woman – not named in local media in Fushun, Liaoning Province, China – had left the kitchen for a few moments before she heard a loud bang.

When she went back in, she found pieces of food scattered over the floor and walls and the pressure cooker’s lid stuck in the ceiling.

The cooker had exploded with so much pressure that the lid was stuck fast in the ceiling panels with its pressure catch hanging down.

Only moments earlier, the woman had been leaning over the pot, checking on the meal’s progress.

She said she had been sitting watching the TV in the living room when it happened, and initially had not been sure whether pressure cooker lid was.

She said: “I didn’t realise immediately until I looked up and saw that the lid had penetrated the ceiling panels and was fixed to the ceiling.

“I can only imagine how much pressure it took to do that.”
