This shocking footage shows how a teenage girl riding an e-scooter was catapulted through the air when an elderly driver slammed into her on a pedestrian crossing.

Luckily, the 13-year-old victim survived the harrowing ordeal in Volgograd, south-western Russia, on 2nd November, but she still had to be hospitalised for injuries.

The motorist – an 85-year-old pensioner behind the wheel of a Lada Riva – had ploughed into the electric scooter rider at speed after jumping an amber light.

Footage shows how the girl was flipped onto the bonnet of the compact sedan before landing with a thud on the tarmac a few feet down the road.

The Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Volgograd Oblast revealed that the incident was one of 799 alleged traffic violations that had taken place in the region that day.

Nine of those incidents involved drink drivers and one reportedly resulted in the death of a young woman.

The Ministry added that the incident seen in the footage took place on Myasnikova Street and that the Lada Riva in question was a VAZ-2107.

No information was given about the driver’s possible arrest and charges he may face.
