This footage shows a schoolgirl with her finger trapped in a hole in her desk while firemen battle to free the unfortunate pupil.

The rescue operation took place in a first-floor classroom at Zheng Liangmei Middle School in Lianshui County, which is in the city of Huai’an in East China’s Jiangsu Province.

The fire service was dispatched on 17th December after the teenager stuck her left index finger in the hole in her desk and neither she nor her teacher could get it out again.

Her teacher, who said the girl was “curious”, tried for an hour to free the pupil before they gave up called the authorities for help.

Video from the classroom, where dozens of the girl’s classmates are watching in amusement, show uniformed rescuers dismantling the wooden desk with a screwdriver.

They opted against a saw because they were worried about causing further injury to the girl’s finger, which was already red and swollen, reports said.

The firemen spent 15 minutes ripping a plank out of the desk before pulling the wood apart and liberating the girl’s digit five minutes after that, the fire service said.

She was not seriously injured but was taken to a local hospital for further treatment, they added.
