This is the gran charged with burning her grand kids hands with a knife after claiming they stole 0.84 GBP from her.

The incident took place in the municipality of Quilicura, in the north of the Chilean capital Santiago after the grandmother, who has not been named in reports, noticed that 750 CLP (0.84 GBP) had gone missing.

She then demanded an explanation from her grandchildren, an eight-year-old girl and a six-year-old boy, but they reportedly did not answer her and she became infuriated.

The grandmother reportedly confessed to cops to having dragged the children to the kitchen and heated a knife on the hob before placing it on the children’s hands to “punish” them.

She then took them to the Juan Luis Undurraga school where teachers noticed that the kids were not using their hands as usual. The concerned teachers then checked the youngsters’ hands and saw the burns before calling the police who arrested the grandmother.

Police lieutenant Luis Basualto said that children had said: “The grandmother had burnt them with a knife, apparently due to the money being lost.”

The woman will have to answer the judge’s queries after being charged with child abuse while the grandchildren recover from their injuries.

According to reports, the grandmother was in charge of the youngsters because their father was working in the region of Valparaiso where he had to travel every day. 

The missing money is not enough to travel on the bus or metro in Santiago during rush hour as a ticket costs around 800 CLP (0.90 GBP).

The case is ongoing.
