Russian Eurovision Song contest winner Jamala is planning to take a break from her career in order to enjoy being a mother – and plan a second pregnancy.

She said she loved show business but being an entertainer and motherhood did not go well together, and as a result she was giving up one for the time being to do a better job on the other.

The singer whose real name is Susana Alimivna Jamaladinova won the contest and her stage name Jamala in May 2016. She married husband Bekir Suleimanov a year later in April 2017 shortly after she graduated with a maths degree from University in Kiev, and in March 2018 her son Emir-Rahman was born.

Announcing the decision to step down from the stage for the time being, she said she wanted to concentrate on getting pregnant again, and also to spend some time with her son who she felt had neglected in order to meet the demands of her career.

She said: “I think I will take a break in order to have another baby. I would very much like to have a large family. My mother was one of seven children in the family, and my father also was not an only child as he also had a sister.”

Jamala said that although she loves her job, she did not want to miss out any more of her babies important years.

She said: “Now, for example, I find I really miss him when I go on tours – I have not seen my Emir for a long time and so I made the decision. It is this separation that upsets me more than anything. But I can’t take his with me, because it’s hard for him. But don’t worry, he’s doing fine – his father is with him, my husband’s parents are just incredible babysitters.”
