Worried neighbours called police when they saw another child of the suspect sobbing in the garden of a home in Pamukkale, Turkey.

Police say the house was frequently used for drug parties.

But when they arrived – on 26th January – they found toddler Murat Aslan Kilic dead.

Now his mother Guler Kilic has been remanded in custody, accused of causing the death of her son.

Investigators found signs of torture on his body, with cigarette burns on his legs and bruises on his face and head.

His mother had fled the home along with two men, but all three were swiftly arrested.

Child services seized two other children, aged nine months and five years, from the property.

Police said drug-fuelled parties were often held at the residence, which reportedly belongs to a relative of Kilic’s boyfriend.

Local media reported that Kilic is a drug user.
