Horrified spectators watched as 24-year-old driver Sakib A.’s 980 bhp car overturned repeatedly as he lost control of it at the end of the race.

Sabik was catapulted from the car as it crashed at an airfield in Zweibruecken, in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate, on 16th September.

The Bosnian-born driver, who lived in Switzerland, had been taking part in a SCC 500 ‘Rolling 50/1000’ drag race.

His brother Elvir, 32, who he ran his racing company with, said: “He loved his Audi TTRR. The car has taken part in this event several times and has never had any problems.”

In June, Sakib had set a speed record in the vehicle, clocking up 316 kph (196 mph).

Elvir added: “He leaves behind two brothers, five nephews – and his parents.
