This is the moment a runaway lorry thunders through city streets ploughing into nine parked cars and injuring two people after its brakes failed.

The incident was caught on a number of CCTV security cameras lining the road in the Turkish capital city Ankara.

The lorry driver and his mate, who were in the vehicle, were also injured after they jumped from the cab as it shot downhill.

They had panicked after realising they were powerless to stop the speeding vehicle which was getting faster and faster.

CCTV footage shows it smashing through cars and shunting them along the road as if they were toys.

The lorry carried on speeding down the hill even after all four tyres blew out when it smashed into the last of the nine cars.

The driver and his mate, whose names have not been released, were rushed by ambulance to hospital for treatment to their injuries.

It was a miracle nobody else was injured or even killed in the incident in the Kecioren district in the north of the city.

One eyewitness, who did not wish to be named, said: “The lorry passed by a bus at speed. As it went down the hill, we heard a loud noise.

“Luckily it was not school or rush hour. The driver jumped out of the lorry. I think the brakes failed because there were no skid marks on the road.”

Police have launched an investigation into the incident but have so far declined to comment pending the outcome of their inquiries.
