This is the moment a pair of loyal dogs rush out of a car to chase away two armed robbers attacking their owner.

The startling incident took place in the neighbourhood of Don Bosco, in the partido of Quilmes, in the Argentine province of Buenos Aires as a dog owner was cleaning his car.

In the video, the dog owner, whose name has not been reported, can be seen cleaning out the boot of his car which is parked in front of his house.

A thug then runs up behind him carrying a pistol and grabs the car owner by the neck in a robbery.

When the thug grabs the victim, two huge dogs come bounding out of the car and sprint towards the criminal chasing him and an accomplice away down the road.

Local media report one of the thugs shot twice at the animals but they were not injured. 

It is unclear if the thugs wanted to rob the victim’s car or break into his house.

A police investigation was launched but no arrests have been reported. Local residents are reportedly set to request for increased security measures in the neighbourhood to the authorities.
