This is the moment supermarket staff and customers wrestle an armed robber to the ground in the car park after he snatched cash from the tills inside.

The startling scenes were recorded by the supermarket’s CCTV cameras in the Karabuk province of Turkey when a masked robber walked into the shop.

In the video, the robber can be seen with a black balaclava covering his face and he points a small handgun at a female cashier. The terrified worker runs away and the man grabs the money from the till before walking up to another cash register and doing the same.

The thief then walks out of the shop and one customer appears to try and stop him but the criminal threatens him with the pistol.

However, several customers and workers then follow the thief outside and one worker grabs the armed man from behind.

The brave employee then swings the thief into a car before several of his colleagues and customers rush in to swap the armed criminal.

One customer jumps into the air to grab the pistol while the other men take the thief down to the ground.

Local media report the police were called and officers then took the thief, named in reports by the initials H.Y., to the Karabuk Research and Training Hospital for a checkup before he was taken to a police station.

H.Y., reportedly a construction worker, is said to have told the officers: “I took a chance but failed.” 

The legal procedures are ongoing and it is unclear if the suspect has been charged.
