This Russian former Olympian may have recently lost her “most successful” title to Simone Biles but she has now gained a child – with her 63-year-old ex-FSB general husband.
Former gymnast Svetlana Khorkina, 40, has given birth to her second child and the first tot with her husband Oleg Kochnev, 63, a former general in the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), the KGB’s successor.
Khorkina, who recently lost her record of most gymnastics medals at World Championships to American superstar Simone Biles, who now has 21, announced the news on social media, writing: “Happy birthday to a baby!”.
The 40-year-old had revealed her pregnancy by showing up to a film premier sporting a baby bump in September.
Khorkina, who is a former MP and current member of Vladimir Putin’s United Russia party, has a son named Svyatoslav, 14, who was born at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles, USA, from a previous relationship.
She has kept the name of her teenage son’s father a secret as he was reportedly married when she was in a relationship with him.
The gymnast has been labelled a ‘diva’ in media and she once responded by saying: “I wouldn’t have been called a diva or a queen if I wasn’t creative.”
She married Kochnev in 2011 and her husband was a general in the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB), the main successor agency to the USSR’s KGB.
The gymnast won gold at the 1996 Olympic games on the uneven bars and repeated her success four years later in Sydney. She won 20 medals at World Championships with nine gold medals, eight silver medals and three bronze medals.
