This is the moment a mum makes a desperate bid to save her young child from their burning apartment by throwing it out the fourth-floor window for rescuers below to save it.

The drama unfolded when a sudden fire broke out in a residential building near Renmin North Road. In the city of Wenzhou, in China’s eastern Zhejiang Province.

A video shared by an unnamed witness on social media on 7th March shows thick smoke continuously billowing from the apartment, with the woman trapped at the window, gradually being engulfed by the smoke.

Many onlookers gathered below the burning home, trying to somehow help free the trapped woman and her child inside.

Seemingly unable to reach the apartment, they quickly held out a large piece of cloth under the open window of the flat on fire.

Despaired and determined to save her child, the woman threw it from the window.

Horrified gasps and shouts could be heard as the toddler plunged four floors down and hit electrical wires during the fall.

Despite the scare, it safely landed on the material held up by the crowd.

Afterwards, the video cut off, but witnesses claimed the woman also managed to escape with her life.

It remains unclear how exactly she was rescued.

Local authorities have not yet released any information regarding the cause of the blaze.
