DAY OF THE DEAD: Huge Fireball Leaves 17 Injured During Festival

At least 17 people have been injured including a pregnant woman who suffered serious burns after a pyrotechnic display went badly wrong.

The dramatic explosion that was captured in these two videos took place during a traditional party that included fireworks on the “Day of the Dead” and related “Xantolo” festivities for indigenous communities that took place on Saturday, 5th November.

Hundreds of people can be seen standing around a blazing fire in the town of Tehuetlan in the municipality of Huejutla de Reyes, in the Mexican state of Hidalgo.

But suddenly, it exploded, creating a huge fireball that scattered debris into the crowd and injured a dozen people including children.

Police are currently investigating and will be creating a report for the Attorney General’s Office of the state of Hidalgo.

The blaze was apparently constructed around a burning effigy of a bull that was filled with too much explosive powder.

All those that were hospitalised suffered first and second-degree burns, although none of the injured have reportedly been fatally injured.

There were also suggestions that some of the injuries had been caused by people stampeding away following the initial explosion.

Officials said that two other figures that were supposed to be burned, a devil and a gorilla, had also been packed with gunpowder.

In the end, they were left inside a warehouse and not used because of fears of a similar incident.
