Dashcam Filming Cabin Reveals Lorry Driver Had Woman, Booze And Toliet Paper In Cab Before Crash

A lorry driver is in hot water after dashcam footage from when his vehicle crashed and overturned revealed he was with a young woman, a bottle of booze and had toilet roll covering the lens.

The footage, filmed on the N14 in Lichtenburg, South Africa, begins with a covered lens suddenly becoming uncovered as the lorry overturns, showing the driver and the young woman being violently thrown to the left side of the cabin.

The shaken driver can be seen handing the young woman an empty bottle so she can hide it before trying to cover the camera lens with a roll of toilet paper moments after the crash.

After he fails to cover the lens with the toilet roll, he rips off a few sheets of toilet paper and uses that instead.

Other images from a camera pointed at the roadshow the moment the lorry veers off course, going slightly off the left side of the road before veering to the right as it overturns.

The crash reportedly brought traffic on the busy road to a standstill, with the lorry blocking traffic in both directions after it overturned.

Local media have speculated that the driver might have been tired from drinking and having intercourse with the woman, with some outlets saying he may also have simply been distracted by her presence.

The trucking company’s general manager, Paul Firkin, of Sutherland Transport, said: “Our policies are very clear; there should be no passengers in the vehicle.”

Neither the driver nor the passenger, both unnamed, sustained any serious injury, according to local media.

He is, however, currently on leave recovering from the crash while an investigation into the incident is set to begin after that.

Firkin said: “We are waiting for him to be okay, and then we’ll have an investigation.”

He added that drivers were also not allowed alcohol in their cabins but said: “We haven’t heard his side of the story, so it would be unfair to say anything on his behalf.”
