This is the shocking moment a traffic police officer is sent somersaulting into the air after a motorcyclist ignores his demands to pull over and instead smashes into him head on.

Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Trong Quy suffered serious injuries in the incident in the major city of Haiphong in northern Vietnam.

Dashcam footage from another vehicle shows the policeman standing in the middle of the road and signalling at the motorcycle to stop.

However, the biker appears to ignore him and hits him head on, causing the cop to somersault high into the air before crashing down onto the road.

Senior Lieutenant Quy is now fighting for his life in the intensive care unit of a local hospital with multiple injuries including a broken neck and a brain haemorrhage.

The motorcyclist, a local resident named only as Thang by police, has been arrested and is facing serious charges.

Senior Lieutenant Quy had been patrolling with two colleagues when they spotted Thang riding his bike at high speed while not wearing a crash helmet.

The police officer stood into the middle of the road to order him to stop but he seems to ignore the order.

Senior Lieutenant Quy did not have time to jump out of the way and the motorbike hit him and knocked him flying.

The footage was later posted on social media and video-sharing platforms where it has been making a big impression on viewers.
