This father has allegedly confessed to stabbing his 11-year-old son to death in a suspected revenge attack to get back at the boy’s mother.
Victim Luis – nicknamed Luchito – was reported missing on 9th March when he did not return home to his house in the Palmilla community in the O’Higgins region of central Chile.
Local media report his family began searching for the boy with the help of local police before his father Luis Diaz Espinoza, 32, found the boy’s body by the Tinguiririca River.
Reports state the body had several injuries caused by a sharp object, and he had been stabbed several times, including from behind.
An investigation was launched and police allegedly found evidence on the father’s phone linking him to the crime.
He had reportedly sent messages to the boy on WhatsApp and social media telling him to meet him where the body was found.
The victim, who lived with his grandmother, is said to have gone to the meeting place on his bike, according to reports.
Reports state the father had asked the boy to delete the messages but they were found on the youngster’s phone anyway as he had not taken the phone with him to the meeting.
Local media report the father confessed to the crime to investigators and he has been placed in preventative prison as the investigation continues.
No official motive has been provided but preliminary investigations are working on the theory it was a revenge attack from the father against the boy’s mother caused by jealousy.
The suspect faces between 15 years and a life sentence if found guilty.
The motive remains unclear although the couple were separated.
